Autos stay of roads for 24 hr
Auto rickshaw driver and owner kept their vehicles off the roads in Belagavi from Thursday dawn to Friday dawn protesting against the increase in vehicle taxes, insurance premium and banning of movement of vehicle which are more than 15 years old
Auto rickshaw drivers and owners under the banner of the auto Rickshaw Owners & Drivers Association took out a protest rally from central bus stand to the deputy commissioner’s office. They raised slogans in support of their demand and submitted a memorandum addressed to the union transport minister to the deputy commissioner.
In the memorandum submitted, they stated that people were already burdened with various taxes including toll collection and increase in prices of fuel. Taxes on vehicles and insurance premium amount hike would lead in increase of auto fares and people
They demanded that the hike in insurance premium amount be brought down. Increase in taxes on vehicle be put on hold, banning of vehicles over 15 years old be withdraw education qualification compulsion for commercial driver licenses be withdraw, speed governors should not be made compulsory for light and heavy vehicle and uniform taxes be levied on inter-State vehicles.
