BCC Office gets 15-ft statue of Ambedkar
The 15-ft tall bronze stature of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was unveiled in the premises of Beagavi City Corporation here on Wednesday. District incharge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi unveiled the statue. Speaking at the programme organized at Kumar Gandharv Rangamandir, the minister said that Ambedkar does not belong just to the dalits but to all of mankind. His contribution is crucial in making India a proud a democratic country, he stated. Jarkiholi said today one can see leaders of dalits and backward classes handling maximum portfolios in the state government. “It’s a commitment of the congress towards dalits doesn’t improve just by having breakfast in their homes, “ he taunted BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa.
BJP MP Suresh Angadi said Ambedkar could have become the prime minister but the national party of the time did not allow him. The party ruled the country for seven decades but never thought of installing a bust of Ambedkar in London like PM Narendra Modi. Angadi said if the 6th century is believed to be the century of Buddha and 12th century of Basaveshwar, then the 21st century must be for Ambedkar.
