Call for mango growers’ federation in the region
Farmers moot supplying fruits to kids during season than eggs
Belagavi : Mango Festival-2017 organized by Horticulture Department at Hume Park here took off on Tuesday with some varieties of mangoes grown in the district being displayed.
In the absence of Small Scale Industries & District Incharge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, Member of Parliament Suresh Angadi and MLA Sanjay Patil inaugurated the festival.
Angadi exhorted the people to relish the king of fruit ripened by using traditional and natural methods by farmers instead of opting for those ripened by using chemicals.
He also expressed need for formation of mango growers federation for the region as mangoes were grown large quantity in the districts coming under the Belagavi division.
Farmers suggested that government to ensure that children get healthy supply of fruits available in the particular season instead of eggs which would also benefit farmers.
Mango Board Chairman G S Goudar. Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram and other dignitaries were present.
Some mango varieties were displayed at the festival venue. The festival came as disappointment for mango lovers who thronged the venue. Barring couple of varieties and pickle counter, there was not much response from farmers.
