DC urged to restrain levying hefty fines on tax defaulters
A delegation, led by former MLA Abhay Paitl urged Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram to restrain Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) revenue section personnel from levying penalty more than three to four times of property taxes on defaults who come from poor and middle classes.
Patil held meeting with Jayaram on Wednesday and apprised him of the acts of the BCC revenue section personnel.
He urged Deputy Commissioner to mediate and direct the BCC personnel to collect tax amount instead of hefty penalty which cannot be paid by them.
Activities of BCC personnel levying hefty penalty were noticed at Vadgaon and khasbag suburbs wherein weavers reside in large numbers and were already under debts as government hasn’t waived their loans. He urged the Deputy Commissioner ask BCC to collect property taxes from weavers and those having industrial sheds in udyambag and not to levy penalty with them facing hard times.
