Gokak Water falls – a must visit this monsoon

The water fall is located 6km from Gokak on the Ghataprabha River. The Ghataprabha River takes a leap of 170 ft over a sandstone cliff after a long winding course. The water fall looks very much like the Niagara Falls but on a smaller scale. There is a hanging bridge across the river that provides magnificent views, however only a limited number of people are allowed at a time. You would also find monuments from the Chalukya period on the banks of this rocky gorge.
Getting there: Belgaum is the nearest airport. There is also a railway station near Gokak and if you prefer taking the road, it is easy to find buses from Belgaum to the water falls.
Interesting fact: You would most definitely see an old electricity generation station on your trip; this is the place where electricity was generated in the year 1887 for the very first time in the country.
