Huge loss of rabi crops in Belagavi district
This year we have seen lot of problems arising due to short of rainfall. We have seen huge water crunch which will grow more acute in coming months. In addition the continuing dry spell & the deficient rainfall during the northeast monsoon in the last year has adversely affected the rabi
crop. The loss is estimated to be 33% and above in the district as stated by Joint Director of Agriculture V. J. Patil. A total of 3,51,807 hectares was cultivated with rabi crops. Among this 2,41,807 were under rain-fed areas and the remaining under irrigated areas. Cereals cultivated under rabi were jowar, maze, wheat and pulses cultivated included bengal gram and cow pea. Oil seeds cultivated under rabi were sunflower, mustard, safflower, linseed & groundnut. Commercial crops include cotton & tobacco.
