IGNOU plans study centre at Belagavi, Vijayapur prisons
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has proposed to set up a special study centre at Central Prisons, Belagavi, and Vijayapur for the Welfare of the inmates while such a study centre was already functioning at Central Prison, Ballari, varsity Regional Director S Radha said. Briefing reporters on Wednesday, Radha said the Central Prisons head office had already approved the proposal and the study centre was likely to start by January next year. Along with academic programmes, Vocational skill upgradation were being taught to the jail inmates at the centre. Admissions were open for July 2017 cycle for admission of master degree, bachelor degree, diploma, PG diploma. All above 18 years of age including housewives, professionals, students, retired people could avail admission at the university while those opting for degree courses like BA, B Com, BSW who lact the essential qualification of pre-university or equivalent are supposed to first get through the bachelor preparatory programme. The last date for admission was July 31. BEd., post basic BSc Nursing, MBA (session commences from January, 2018). Entrance Examination would be on September 24 while last day for submission of application is August 11. Students belonging to SC and ST communities, and physically-challenged, would get free reimbursement, while fee for BA, B Com, BSc, BTS, BSW & BCA programmes has been exempted for students from weaver’s community for BPP and computer literacy programme is exempted and similarly for transgender there was fee exemption for all programmes, he said. The university has also relaxed the experience criteria for requires for admission to post graduation management courses, Radha informed. The university would provide the study material following admission which could be collected through study centers.
