Indigenous bio-fuel solution to fight against ‘Fuel Crisis’
In Today’s alarming situation like degradation of environment due to pollution by vehicles & fuel prices being hiked regularly, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi has come with its very own Bio-fuel unit. VTU has taken a prominent step to address such major issues. The Bio-fuel unit is based at the University premises. It’s good to know that the bio-fuel produced is in harmony with environment and also cost effective. The Bio-fuel produced is compatible with Diesel Vehicles. The test has been successfully carried on such vehicles and now the varsity is considering to increase its production. H. Maheshappa informed “The Bio-fuel is derived from renewable biomass resources and therefore provide a strategic advantage to promote sustainable development thereby providing supplement conventional energy resources. The increasing transportation requirement can be met rapidly along with the energy needs at rural thereby achieving economic growth.”
The University with the support of Karnataka Bio-fuel Development Board has established Bio-fuel Information and Demonstration centre at its headquarters ‘Jnana Sangama’, where information will be provided regarding bio-fuel to public, farmers, bio-fuel cultivators, researchers and entrepreneurs. Presently, the bio-fuel centre has been producing 100-150 litres of bio-diesel per month by using pongamia peanut (Karanja or Hulagal or Honage). Apart from this day to day useful products like Sanitary liquids, hand wash liquids, soaps are also being produced at the varsity.
