MLIRC CELEBRATES THE MARATHA DAY
Regimental Boxing, Inter-Company Elocution Competitions was held. The celebrations were organized by the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) all over the country on Thursday to commemorate the sacrifice of the Maratha warriors in the history of the Nation.The date has been specifically chosen as it have an important historical bearing, the significance of which entrenched in the hearts and minds of generations of Maratha warriors.It was on this day,when Tanaji Malusare,a great warrior and the most trusted general of Shivaji Maharaj had besieged the fort of Kondana in the year 1670.In a daring assault on the fort with handful of his men, Tanaji Malusare climed the ramparts of the fort using his ‘Ghorpad'(iguana) and in the fierce battle wrested control of the fort. However, he attained martyrdom in his valiant act. Shivaji named the fort,’ Sinhgarh’ after his general, describing as ‘Sinh'(lion). Tanaji Malusare, by his sacrifice was an embodiment of ‘Service Before Life’. The regiment has taken its motto of ‘Duty,Honor,Courage’ from such gallant actions of innumerable Maratha Warriors . MLIRC Commandant Brigadier Pravin Shinde,in his message to the soldiers,exhorted them to follow the footsteps of such great Maratha Leaders and to the epitome of what a soldier is expected to be. The celebrations of the Maratha Day included a regimental boxing competition,an inter-company elocution competition,wreath laying at the War Memorial and a speech by Lt Gen DN Desai,(retired) which were all dedicated to the ‘Spirit of Maratha Warrior’ with focus to enrich the spark of this Indian Soldier.
