MUDHOL HOUNDS NOW PART OF ARMY’S SNOFFER SQUAD
Mudhol hounds,the native breed hound in the north Karnataka region,is now became a part of the Army’s sniffer dog squad.
These dogs,are known for their intelligence & obedience were already in the list of canines which could be adopted by the Army into its squad for activities such as bomb detection & other rescue operations.
The Canine Research & Information Centre of Timmapur Villageof Mudhol Taluk Said,”We have,as a beginning handed over six dogs.If required,we are ready to offer more dogs to the defence forces.In fact, it is a matter of great pride for us that our dogs will now be serving the Nation.”He even said for past 1 year we were in discussions with the authorities of Remount Veterinary Crops Centre and College,Meerut,Uttar Pradesh. about sending the dogs to the Army centre.
In the memory of Hannamantappa Koppad,One of the victims of the Siachen avalanche,Dr.Dodmani said they have decided to give six Dogs where presently 3 male dogs and 3 female dogs are given which will go through 3 months of rigrous trainig before inducted into Army. He further added that they can provide again 150 puppies to Army if they Submit requirement and it will be a honour to give there dogs to Indian Army.
Mudhol hounds are found in around Mudhol Taluka of Bagalkot district.Local residents use them for hunting deer,wild boar and rabbit from years.It have special features like a elongated body,pointed nose,The dog has tremendous sniffing power.
