NEW SPECIES FOUND IN WESTERN GHATS
In the Western Ghats in the past one and a half years 32 new species of amphibians have been discovered .
It means 217 of the 384 amphibian species found in the country are in the Western Ghats.
Mhadei research Centre has released a new list on their website which states that new 40 species are discovered across the country since last release in 2013.
Scientists say that these amphibians are necessary part of the ecosystem. They eat mosquitoes, serve as a food to birds, fish and monkeys.
The list has been updated till January 2015 and will be regularly updated depending on the advances in amphibian studies and new description of species.
