Pollution board takes steps to check POP idols
Local idols makers and Ganesh Utsav Mandal’s have been apprised by KSPCB and Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) that Ganesh idols PoP are banned as per orders of National Green Tribunal. They have been told to desist from making and installing them due to pollution in water bodies when they are immersed. Despite ban, some mandal office bearers were supporting PoP idols exploring measures to continue PoP idols installed. Some idols makers too are making idols by adulterating PoP with clay.
Joint teams with from KSPCB and from concerned local bodies would conduct surprise checks at workshops of Ganesh idol makers and ensure they do not resort to making PoP idols. Such idols would be seized. Local bodies have also been given responsibility to ensure idol makers do not misuse their premises and make PoP idols, Jagadish stated.
In the interest of environment, both idol makers and mandals should keep away from the practice of PoP idols and install Ganesh idols of clay, say environmentalists.
