Rajhunsgad: A Historic Tourist Spot
Rajhunsgad or Yellurgad Located in Belgaum Taluk is surrounded by green fields and it has a history of many centuries and its rulers including the Yadavas, Hoysalas,Bahmani,Adilshahi,Peshwas and Marathas. It is known for its natural beauty, some of the features of this beautiful fort are: More than 50 species of birds can be found around the fort ,attracting several birds photographers.Peacocks in large numbers are seen in the field surrounding the fort.eagles,woodpeckers and other birds too are common.Wildlife is also sighted around the fort. Deer, leopard, wild boar and different species of snakes are commonly seen.The fort is situated about 2,500ft (762m)above sea level .It is believed that there existed a secret tunnel from the Belagavi fort to Rajhunsgad. A temple of lord Shiva is located in the fort.Villagers around the fort perform pooja at the temple on every Monday .it is now being reconstructed, along with other development works.The temple ‘s maintenance cost is mainly borne by people of surrounding villages which include Rajhunsgad ,Sulga ,and Yellur. A well is located in the fort with sweet water round –the-year. It is located just 20 km from Belagavi.
