Swami Vivekanand Sevashram at Swami Vivekanand Marg, a place of historical significance where itinerant monk Swami Vivekanand stayed for 12 days during his visit in Belagavi will be transformed into a memorial centre, while the original glory will be retained. The renovation job has been taken over by Ramkrishna Mission Ashram, Belagavi. The restoration job has been carried out from past 2 years & will complete the job in next 4 months. Once completed the memorial will add to the key tourist destination list.
Swami Vivekanand Sevashram, renamed as Ramakrishna Mission Ashram has been turned as the sub-centre The Ashram has been retraining the over century old two floor traditional building to its original design.Besides Swami Vivekanand, several noted freedom fighters and luminaries had also visited the Sevashram which stands as inspirational sight. Now, this building which is century old & has witnessed deterioration are being restored.
The Service experts in restoration works, skilled masons from Jharkand, carpenters from Kerala, while painters and polishers from Uttar Pradesh have toiled to strengthen the structure and restore its appearance as it was during Swami Vivekanand’s visit in 1892.
The Ashram had hitherto spent Rs. 7 crore including Rs. 2 crore for restoration. There were plans to implement works another Rs 8 crore to retain its glory.
