River Krishna begins to dry
With mercury-level rising, river Krishna has begun to dry up near Kuduchi in Raibag taluk. This in turn will lead to multi- village drinking water schemes in southern part of the taluk going defunct and 18 villages dependent on them facing scarcity of drinking water.
The present water-level in the river bed near Savadatti, Siddapur and Khemlapur, is very low and this is expected to dry up as summer progresses.
Kudachi Town Muncipal Council Chief Officer S A Mahajan said that Kuduchi town and surrounding villages need 10 to 15 lakhs litre water to meet the requirements. Therefore, water from borewells and open wells would be collected and water will be supplied for drinking purposes twice a week.
He advised that people who have been directly collecting water from the river bed should drink boiled and cooled water.
