ROYCETON GOMES MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT- MAIN DRAW LEAGUE PHASE – DAY 2
The first match at 1:00 PM was played between Mahila Vidyalaya Mandal School and qualifier G G Chitnis School. It turned out to be a very exciting first half. Both teams played very well, keeping possession of the ball equally. However, in the 22nd minute, a powerful shot that landed near the goal posts, was neatly headed into the nets by Mayur Palekar. In the second half, MVM had an opportunity to score but was unable to convert it into a goal. Even though MVM tried hard to defend, they could not stop Vikram Nandudkar from bagging two more goals in the 45th and 50th minutes. Chitnis won the match 3 – 0.
The second match at 2:00 PM was played between Bharatesh High School and qualifier Good Shepherd Central School. The match began by Bharatesh clearly having an edge over Good Shepherd. But Good Shepherd missed two golden opportunities, one went over the bar and another was collected neatly by the Bharatesh goal-keeper. Both schools fought equally hard to score until Allabakash Takkewale of Bharatesh got a lucky break and opened the score of the match in the 17th minute. Bharatesh stepped up their game in the second half, keeping the ball at Good Shepherd’s end most of time, and in the 30th minute, their efforts paid off when Shrinivas Lohar scored the second goal for Bharatesh. Even though Good Shepherd tried hard to equalize, Bharatesh won the match 2 – 0.
The third match at 3:00 PM was played between Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School and qualifier KLS High School. KLS started the match well by keeping the game in their control. They managed to take a shot at the goal which hit the goal-post and bounced back but was cleverly converted by Prajwal Lad in the 9th minute. Dnyan Prabodhan fought hard to equalize and were rewarded when Shreyas Aptekar took a shot that slipped through the goal-keeper hands in the 15th minute. The score was 1 – 1 at half time. The equalizer in the first half seemed to pep up Dnyan Prabodhan as Om Mannolkar and Mandar Pujari were able to score two more goals for Dnyan Prabodhan in the 27th and 40th minutes. However, Aniket Patil of Dnyan Prabodhan was able to delight all the spectators watching when he took a shot from the center line and dropped the ball neatly into the corner of the goal nets in barely the last minute of the match. Dnyan Prabodhan won the match 4 – 1.
The fourth match at 4:00 PM was played between St. Paul’s High School and qualifier Benson High School. St. Paul’s began by a captivating display of football skills with accurate passes and good dodging skills. Benson defended very well for most part of the first half until Md Hanzala Pathan of St. Paul’s converted a penalty awarded to them in the 23rd minute. St. Paul’s were leading at the end of the first half. In the second half, St. Paul’s continued their dominance when Brian Joseph and Md Kasim Mujawar scored two goals in quick succession in the 31st and 33rd minutes. Benson tried hard to fend off the attack but were unable to stop Harshad Chougule and Aryan Nippanikar from scoring goals in the 40th and 47th minutes. St. Paul’s won the match 5 – 0.
