ROYCETON GOMES MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT- QUARTER FINALISTS DECLARED
Eight Quarter-finalists emerged on the concluding day of the Main Draw league – Islamiya High School, Lovedale Central School, Marathi Vidyaniketan, Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School, St. Paul’s High School, Phoenix Public School, Bharatesh High School and Beynon Smith High School.
The first match at 1:00 PM was played between Islamiya High School and Mahila Vidyalaya Mandal School. Islamiya opened the match with a bang with ace-scorer Kaif Shaikh scoring two goals in the very first minute and 4th minute of the match. They continued to put pressure on MVM and Md Shabbir Khan managed to score the third goal for Islamiya in the 10th minute. MVM fought back hard and Saiesh Shetty was able to open the score for MVM in the 17th minute. In the second half, MVM continued to maintain their defence but Md Mustafa Shaikh sneaked the fourth goal for Islamiya in the 26th minute. MVM continued to defend well for the rest of the match but Islamiya won the match 4 – 1.
The second match at 2:00 PM was not played since Sarvodaya Vidyalaya did not come for their match. Bharatesh was awarded 3 points to their tally.
The third match at 3:00 PM was played between Marathi Vidyaniketan and Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School. The game turned out to be a well balanced match with both schools playing equally well. Both schools defended their territory not letting the ball cross each other’s goal lines. The game picked up pace in the second half with both schools putting extra effort to score. In the last few minutes, Om Manolkar of Dnyan Prabodhan managed to open the score in the 49th minute which was almost immediately equalized by Manish Patil in the 50th minute, after which the final whistle was blown. This very exciting match ended in draw 1 – 1.
The fourth match at 4:00 PM was played between Phoenix Public School and St. Paul’s High School. It turned out to be one of the most exciting matches to watch this season with both schools displaying excellent football skills and providing a thrilling game to watch. The ball moved from side to side with each team in posession equally. However, in the last few minutes of the first half ace-scorer Nivarutti Pavanoji of Phoenix Public managed to open the score of the match in the 23rd minute. In the second half, St. Paul’s played with renewed vigour and in the early minutes of the second half Krishna Gaonkar equalized the score in the 29th minute. The rest of the second half both schools tried hard to score but the game ended in a draw 1 – 1.
With the conclusion of the Main Draw League, the following schools qualified for the Knock-out phase which will begin tomorrow with the Quarter Finals. Islamiya High School and Lovedale Central School qualified from Pool A. Marathi Vidyaniketan and Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir High School from Pool B, St. Paul’s High School and Phoenix Public School from Pool C and Bharatesh High School and Beynon Smith High School from Pool D.
Today, the first quarter-final at 1:00 PM will be played between Islamiya High School and Beynon Smith High School. The second quarter-final at 2:00 PM will be played between Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School and Phoenix Public School. The third quarter-final at 3:00 PM will be played between Lovedale Central School and Bharatesh High School, and finally the fourth quarter-final at 4:00 PM will be played by Marathi Vidyaniketan and St. Paul’s High School.

1:00 PM – Islamiya High School vs. Beynon Smith High School
2:00 PM – Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School vs. Phoenix Public School
3:00 PM – Lovedale Central School vs. Bharatesh High School
4:00 PM – Marathi Vidyaniketan vs. St. Paul’s High School
