Seven Schools in Belgavi to be closed
A few Kannada, Marathi and Urdu primary schools will be closed due to negligible number of students taking admission in these schools. These schools will be however merged with the nearby school in the same locality. But, the teachers of these schools will also be shifted to the merging school, which will lead to unnecessary addition of teaching staff.
Education Officer Department has stated the procedure will start soon after the monsoon legislative session will end. The names are yet disclosed since it may lead to chaos in the ongoing legislative monsoon session. The decision is based on the earlier notification made by the then education minister Visveshwaraya Hegde. During the BJP government in the state, Visveshwaraya Hegde had decided to close down all the schools where students admitted in such schools was below 10. But earlier these schools were not allowed to get merged with other nearby schools residing in the same locality.
Accordingly it is disheartened to know that the strength of Government primary and secondary schools in the city is about 4,140. Whereas the strength of Private Marathi schools is about 7,140. The highest strength being is the English schools with strength of 36,797. This reveals the parents opting for English medium schools over vernacular medium schools.
