Tourists walking on the Hanging Bridge at Gokak Falls to be banned
Gokak Falls also known as ‘Niagara of Karnataka’ is the best place to visit in Monsoon season. You can find many tourist visiting this place. There is a huge rope bridge at this tourist spot. This nearly 210 meter-long suspension bridge – merely a hanging wooden bridge was constructed in 1907 for the convenience of the workers of Gokak Mills Ltd. and residents on either sides of the Ghataprabha river. This Bridge has become a risky walk for the tourist.
Though the maximum number of persons allowed to cross the bridge at a time is restricted to 30, more than 100 persons can be seen crossing the narrow bridge at a time, from both the ends. Looking to this serious life taking risk, deputy commissioner N. Jayaram is planning to ban all the tourist from using the bridge. Hence after only the mill workers will be allowed to use the bridge.
