Traders set shop on the middle of road causing traffic jams
Fruit and other vendors have encroached upon more than half of SPM road on both sides creating hurdles for free movement of traffic. Traffic movement has increased manifolds after old Pune-Bengaluru national highway was closed for traffic movement a fortnight ago after the works for RoB commenced on it. At landing point of RoB on SPM road, fruit and other vendors, have set up shop displaying their wares and carry on trade. This has led to vehicular movement coming to grinding halt and motorists facing inconveniences while passing on the stretch. It has also been leading to verbal exchanges among motorists and vendors. Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) had recently undertaken a drive to clear encroachments by traders and vendors on the busy roads ensuring roads wore free look for about a fortnight. After brief lull, encroachments have returned on roads with traders and vendors, who had backed off, resurfacing and encroaching the road portions. Residents have demanded that BCC should take concrete measures booking traders and vendors for encroaching upon road portions.
