Vaccination of livestock from April 2017
Deputy Director A K Chandrashekhar told reporters here on Thursday that the vaccination programme has been organized by National Foot and Mouth Disease control. Livestock would be vaccinated for free. A total of 20 round vaccination programme has been organized to ensure that those dependent on dairy farming for their livelihood do not incur losses with their livestock getting affected with the disease.
Foot and mouth diseases were seen in livestock and pigs. It spreads due to food, water, fodder and air. There was no assured treatment, but vaccination could prevent the livestock from getting infected. Farmers and those dependent on dairy farming should vaccinate their livestock and cooperate, he added.
A total of 14 lakh livestock have been targeted for vaccination in the district and 105 trams have been formed. Each team of seven members has been provide a vehicle. Livestock would be vaccinated between 7.00 am to 11.00 am. Summer temperatures if were more, vaccination would not be done, Dr Chandrashekhar said.
Dr Chandrashekhar also informed that as per the demands of the shepherds in the district on the lines of Goshala , ‘ Kurishala’ too would be established near Hidkal dam which would hours over 10,000 sheeo. Fodder and water would be made available.
